The children of Israel quickly forgot their God and Saviour in the wilderness. Scripture tells us they lost sight of His works and the One who delivered them from Egypt. As Christians, we too can fall into a similar spiritual state, experiencing a “leanness of soul” towards the things of God. In this brief word, we’ll hear God’s appeal through the Scriptures, encouraging us to awaken our souls in true commitment to Him.
Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation
Psalm 106:12-15 “12 Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.13 They soon forgot his works; they waited not for his counsel:14 And they lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.15 Then he gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul.”
Isaiah 55:1-3 “55 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters; and he that hath no money, come ye, buy, and eat: yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price!2 Wherefore do ye spend money for [that which is] not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye [that which is] good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
3 Incline your ear, and come unto me; hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, the sure mercies of David.”
