God is our refuge and strength

Preachers Corner https://www.preacherscorner.org.uk

Over 40 times in the Bible, God is referred to as a refuge. Many people today long to find a place of safety, somewhere to take refuge and be at peace. In the Bible, God promises to be “our refuge and strength, a help in distresses, very readily found.” God so loved you that He sent a Savior, Jesus Christ, to draw near to you and show us that it is in Him we can find a place of refuge.

Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation

Psalms 46:1-1146 God is our refuge and strength, a help in distresses, very readily found. Therefore will we not fear though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the heart of the seas;Though the waters thereof roar [and] foam, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

There is a river the streams whereof make glad the city of God, the sanctuary of the habitations of the Most High.God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her at the dawn of the morning. The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

Jehovah of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our high fortress. Selah.Come, behold the works of Jehovah, what desolations he hath made in the earth:He hath made wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariots in the fire.

10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.11 Jehovah of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our high fortress. Selah.”

Matthew 7:34-2924 Whoever therefore hears these my words and does them, I will liken him to a prudent man, who built his house upon the rock;25 and the rain came down, and the streams came, and the winds blew and fell upon that house, and it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock.

26 And every one who hears these my words and does not do them, he shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand;27 and the rain came down, and the streams came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell, and its fall was great. 28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his doctrine,29 for he taught them as having authority, and not as their scribes.”

Hebrews 6:17-1917 Wherein God, willing to shew more abundantly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of his purpose, intervened by an oath,18 that by two unchangeable things, in which [it was] impossible that God should lie, we might have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to lay hold on the hope set before us,19 which we have as anchor of the soul, both secure and firm, and entering into that within the veil,20 where Jesus is entered as forerunner for us, become for ever a high priest according to the order of Melchisedec.”

1 Peter 2:4-10To whom coming, a living stone, cast away indeed as worthless by men, but with God chosen, precious, yourselves also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.Because it is contained in the scripture: Behold, I lay in Zion a corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believes on him shall not be put to shame.

To you therefore who believe [is] the preciousness; but to the disobedient, the stone which the builders cast away as worthless, this is become head of [the] corner, and a stone of stumbling and rock of offence; [who] stumble at the word, being disobedient to which also they have been appointed. But *ye* [are] a chosen race, a kingly priesthood, a holy nation, a people for a possession, that ye might set forth the excellencies of him who has called you out of darkness to his wonderful light;10 who once [were] not a people, but now God’s people; who were not enjoying mercy, but now have found mercy.”
